Ask Ashley Wednesday

Ask Ashley Wednesday is when I post answers to the etiquette questions you've submitted. Please feel free to comment on my answers. If you have a thought that is better than what I have found, let us know!!!

Question:
Is there a statute of limitations on when it's appropriate to contact someone on Facebook? Say if you haven't spoken in 15 years, but no hard feelings exist - too long? 10 years? 5?
Answer:
I don't believe there is a statute of limitations on when it is or isn't appropriate. The creator of facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, founded the site initially as a social networking tool and a way to stay in touch/reconnect with old acquaintances. I would say... go ahead and message the old friend make Zuckerberg proud!

I totally agree. It's a great feeling to get a message from an old friend and re-connect with them. The only tense feelings that would arise is if the person felt kind of upset that you hadn't contacted them in so long. But if it was just an old friend that you went your separate ways with and there isn't any hard feelings at all, by all means it would be so fun catch up with them!
