Remembering Names

I am so incredibly terrible at this! I don't know if this is because I am in my own little world or if I need to get my hearing checked, regardless I can not pull it together when it comes to remembering peoples names...
So as I was doing some research last night I stumbled across the correct etiquette for what to do when you have forgotten the persons name that you are talking to.
Easily enough Emily Post says that you should First apologize then quickly say that you've suddenly forgotten their name.
Once the person has responded with there name quickly say thank you and go on with the conversation. There is no need to continue to apologize.
Well there you go... problem solved!

Seems simple enough! I hate being in those situations. I had a few classmates that always called me by my name & it become so late in the semester that I simply could not ask them theirs {I should have known it by then, sheesh!}. It was awful - I was always trying to look at their tests & whatnot to read their name. They probably thought I was cheating, ha!

I tend to be terrible at that too! I read somewhere that to help remember, you should try using their name 3 times during the initial conversation, which helps to cement it into you memory. Just like, "Oh, Ashley, I love your necklace." lol

It seems to work for me! :)

The first thing to do in getting better at remembering names is to stop saying " I am so terrible at remembering names". It's just negative reinforcement to you mind that reinforces that you are "terrible at this".
We are poor at remembering names because we don't give it the focus and attention it deserves. We all love to hear our names. See my post about a strategy for remembering names. I would direct this at the person who originally posted this...but I can't remember her name:)
