Elevator Etiquette

"Your already stuck in a small box, don't make things worse!"

ELEVATOR ETIQUETTE
...

If you end up standing right near the buttons, people expect you to be the
conductor. Remember in the good old days when people use to work as elevator
operators? This is you now! Look at it this way – you can help others to where
they need to go. Put a smile on people’s faces and spread the courtesy.

If you see a person running towards the elevator, make sure to hold the
door open for them. I’m sure they would do the same for you.

If you don’t want to hold the door for whatever reason, try not to look at
the person. Having earphones with you will help even more, since this will let
you become “deaf” for a few seconds, even if you are just wearing them.

If you notice that a courier or someone with a large freight want to get in
the elevator or is already there when you’re getting on, make sure to move to
either side wall, so they can get out easily. Most of the time, they tend to
stand in the middle of the elevator, for easier access to exit.

If you have a cold, make sure to cover your mouth and nose, even if you
don’t have a tissue. No one wants you to report the weather. That’s what The Weather Network
is for.

So the next time you get in an elevator, keep these points in mind. You
will make your day and everyone else’s a better one.

Airplane Etiquette

Oh this is a doozy!
Once again... I could break out my Nerf gun!!
...
Airplane Etiquette

  1. Carry your bag in front of you and low to the ground.

  2. Utilize the overhead space above your own seat row.

  3. Keep your chair upright at least until you're told it can be reclined.

  4. Avoid grabbing the back of the seat in front of you.

  5. Respect personal space.

  6. Avoid hogging the aisle.

  7. Be considerate of other passengers when you deplane.

...

Extra tips to keep in mind.

Wear deodorant, but do not wear a strong perfume or cologne.
Always bring a tissue or handkerchief with you in case you sneeze or cough.

Keep your conversations to a low whisper if you're traveling with someone.

Do not put your feet up on the bulkhead if you are sitting by it. If you must raise your feet, put your bag on the floor and put your feet on that.

When movies start, ask the passenger next to you if they'd prefer to have the window shade down.

At the baggage claim, stand back from the carousel until you see your bag approaching, then step forward to retrieve it.

If you're traveling with a pet, ask the passenger next to you right off the bat if they're allergic, before you sit down.

If you have any skin conditions, such as dandruff, be considerate and do not scratch continuously onto the person next to you.

Listen to the instructions of the flight attendants. The rules regarding no head phones during take off and landing, no cell phones, luggage stored in bins or under the seats, tables stored seat upright are not only for the other passengers, they are for you as well. Abiding by all rules allows things to go faster and much happier flight attendants.

Make sure you are aware of the new security rules (amount of allowable liquids in a small plastic zip lock bag etc). Security checks are delayed every time somebody tries to get through with items which are not allowed.

Dog Etiquette

Every once in a while I need a good refresher in Dog Etiquette...
I too have to keep Little Lucy in line!

...

11 Dog Manners Tips from BigPawsOnly.com

Dog Manners Tip #1: Always keep your dog on a leash when out in public. You never know what you might run into - another dog that just rubs old Rex wrong, or his favorite animal darting across the street. You don't want you puppy running after him.

Dog Manners Tip #2: Never leave your dog in the car if its hot out. Even with the windows rolled down your pup could overheat. Your car is an oven under the sun.

Dog Manners Tip #3: It is inappropriate to bring your pet to a barbeque or party without him or her being invited. Even with family. Always check with the party host.

Dog Manners Tip #4: Always keep doggy bags on you at all times. You never know when you dog will want to go potty and you want to keep your neighborhood clean. No ones likes to step in poop.

Dog Manners Tip #5: If your dog gets out of line or unruly, stop and give him or her a time out. Your dog should always be on his best behavior to represent you and your breed in the best manner possible. If he continues, immediately leave and take him home. This will teach him through conditioning that only good behavior merits good long walks.

Dog Manners Tip #6: If your dog is in heat, don't take her out in public. This only makes other dogs behave poorly and disturbs the enjoyment of you and others.

Dog Manners Tip #7: When walking through your neighborhood, do not let your pup pee on lawns and gardens. This can result in unsightly dead spots and many spend a lot of time creating those environments.

Dog Manners Tip #8: Do you have a dog that drools? Perhaps a Newfoundland? Keep a towel handy so that your dogs drool doesn't get all over other pets and people. Some people genuinely get ill at the sight of slobber so keep it clean so that your pet is always ready for a good petting.

Dog Manners Tip #9: Do not let your dog swim in a pond that you yourself wouldn't freely jump into. Many local harmless looking ponds become stagnant and could carry bacteria or disease. Also in some regions, there are alligators that would just love a friendly snack.

Dog Manners Tip #10: When traveling with your dog, staying at hotels and the like, do not let him behave as he would at home. Sure you are paying for the stay but it is not home and some are absolutely scared of dogs. It is best to presume that all folks are scared than to think otherwise. Do not let your dog bark as it can be stressful for all of those around you. If your dog is allowed at the hotel, it is because previous guests gave the same courtesy. Represent your breed and yourself and keep it open for the rest of us.

Dog Manners Tip #11: When hiking or back-packing, keep your dog under strict voice command whereby heel means heel and no means no. When running into other trail users always step away giving them the right away. Make sure your pet is clear away so that he doesn't bother them trying to get a whiff of every passer-bye -- he can smell them from afar. If you run into a horse and rider, again yield and be sure your dog is calm and collected. Any barking or aggressive movements can startle the horse and injure someone.

Moviegoing Etiquette

I absolutely love going to the movies, until something like this happens...
Needless to say there are rules about what you can and can not do while
catching a flick.
...

How many seats can I save? It’s simple: You can save one seat for each person in your party who has already purchased a ticket. So, friend in the popcorn line: Yes. Friend en route with Fandango receipt: Yes. Friend who hedged and said she might tag along for Spider-Man 3: No.
Can I text-message if the movie gets dull?
Can you shine a flashlight into the eyes of people behind you? No. Just because something doesn’t make noise doesn’t mean it isn’t incredibly, annoyingly distracting. If you have urgent business to conduct, walk outside.
Do I have to clean up? Tough one. But we side with Jerry Seinfeld on this, who said, “We have a deal with the theaters: You rip us off with overpriced, oversized crap we shouldn’t be eating in the first place, and when I’m done I just open my hand.” That said, don’t be a pig.
Can I talk during the movie? We’d like to say, “No, no, never, no, absolutely not.” But the days of respectful silence are gone. During the pre-film ads, speak as much and as loudly as you like. Whispers and derisive yelps are permissible during trailers. During the feature, you must limit yourself to the occasional whisper. Silence is preferred, but a hushed “Wait—didn’t she die in that car wreck back there?” is okay. There is one exception to these rules: the brilliant, brave comment in the terrible movie. For us, it was at I Know What You Did Last Summer, in a particularly histrionic scene of Jennifer Love Hewitt’s emoting that a guy shouted out “Oscar clip!” and provided the high point of the night.

Perfume Etiquette

No one loves perfume more than me, I truly love buying a new scent,
there is something about perfume that just makes you feel pretty!
Although, there is nothing more irritating than when someone wears too much.
Have you ever been on an airplane seated next to a person during a 9hour flight
whose only goal in life is to suffocate you with his/her scent... it is truly awful!
So here are some tips on how to stay smelling sweet without making people want to weep!!
....
1. Pick a suitable scent for your age.
There is defiantly a difference in perfume,
some are obviously more mature than others,
keep that in mind when purchasing your new sent.
2. Keeping in mind the time of day.
Don't wear a strong scent during the day,
keep your stronger more sophisticated scents for evening.
3. Application
At first only apply a minimal amount,
you can always reapply (never in public) but it is difficult to take off.
4. Parameters
If you know that you will be in close quarters with others take cation when applying.
Also, you might not be able to smell the perfume if it is a sent that you wear often, but that doesn't mean that others aren't effected.

Women's Fashion

Hello girls! I apologize for the lateness of this post today. It has been a whirlwind of an afternoon, I have been working with clients all morning and still trying to get over this cold I can't seem to shake! But I have a great etiquette post for today on women's fashion!
I love this especially since I live in Orlando (the tourist capital) and see all sorts of "vacation sports wear" that really isn't acceptable for any human to be wearing! So here are a few of the fashion faux pas:
1. Clothing that is too tight, too short, too revealing!
2. White socks with sandals (or any socks with sandals)
3. "House dresses" (NOT OKAY)
4. Spray on glitter before noon (well actually spray on glitter all together)
5. Fanny packs... just not flattering!
6. Dressing too young for your age... p.s. your not fooling anyone!
I am stopping myself .... I could go on for days!!!!

Cell Phone Etiquette

Next week I will finish the part two for the invitation dress code. Also, more exciting news, Ms. Pink Teapot will be doing some guest blogging soon! I am very excited to hear what she has to say! So stay tuned for some great upcoming posts.

These four cell phone rules come from Lizzy Post's book called "How Do You Work This Thing Called Life".

1. Turn it off. If the ringing of your phone is going to bother the people around you—especially if you’re in a meeting, at a play or movie or concert, or in a quiet place like a library or church—turn your phone off or switch the ringer to silent or vibrate mode.

2. Step away. Whenever you’re around other people and you receive or make a cell phone call, move a short distance away so that you can talk without disturbing the people around you. If you’re with a group, simply excuse yourself for a few minutes: “Sorry, I need to take this call. I’ll be right back.” Then keep the call as brief as possible.

3. Don’t say anything personal, private or confidential if you’re in a place where others might be able to overhear you. Instead, arrange a time to call back when you can speak privately.

4. Watch the volume. For some reason, people’s ‘phone voices’ are always louder than the voice they use in normal conversation. Add to that the noise of a busy sidewalk or the background noise of a public place, and the urge to shout can become overwhelming. But remember—you’re the one fighting to hear over the noise, not the person you’re speaking with. So give everyone a break, and remember to tone it down

Just Plain Unexceptable!

Here are the top 12 rudest behaviors according to Mrs. Post.
By the way, I think this is hilarious list because if you live in a major city such as Orlando like I do, you can see almost all twelve of these "etiquette sins" committed during one 15 min. trip to Wal-mart!
1. Racists or ethnic jokes
2. Using four letter words & other obsenities in public.
3. Yelling on your cell phone.
4. Treating the sales person as if they are beneath you.
5. Letting your kids run-a-muck.
6. Road Rage
7. Referree abuse at a childs sporting event.
8. Spitting/littering on the side walk
9. Not giving your seat up for an elderly, disabled, pregnate person.
10. Charging though crowds
11. Jumping ahead in checkout lines.
12. Lighting up a cigaret in a room full of non-smokers.
