Holiday Party Season

Good Morning!!  Anybody still nursing a turkey hangover?  I LOVE Thanksgiving and I'm sorry to see the weekend end, BUT, I have lots of holiday cards and other special orders to work on, so I'm happy to get back in the office (OK lets be honest....I was in there for most of the weekend too ;).

It's holiday season and that means invitations for those holiday parties will start pouring in.  I thought this week we could talk about different parties you may go to and situations you might find yourself in.  We'll cover hosting a party, attending the office party and the typical holiday/dinner party.  If you have any specific questions, please email me this week at ab@ashleybrookedesigns.com and I'll do my best to get them answered on the blog :)

Looking forward to diving into this topic this week--check back for helpful hints!  Don't forget you can follow me on twitter @abdesigns and keep up with me during the day :)

Twitter + Etiquette = Twitterquette

Are we all twitter now?!?
Well, some of us are.. so for those of you who are tweetastic, this is for you!!
A Few Twittering Don'ts :
Asking too many silly questions

Swearing (judged by saying a word your grandmother would shudder at)

Twittering when drinking (as judged by slur in text)

Responding to your own twitter question

Responding to someone you follow when they don't follow you (so can't see you)

If responding directly to a person you must insert @ in front of the persons user name @smith. This way only people who are following both people involved with receive the Tweets.
But if you use @ you must place it at the beginning of the Tweet or it will still be forwarded to all your followers.
P.S. If you are on Twitter... Let's be friends!!!

Guest Blogger: Technology Etiquette

Janine our guest blogger will be covering technology etiquette!

Today’s topic is basic technology etiquette. We have Facebook, Twitter, email, cell phones, bluetooth gadgets all over, ipods, laptops...you name it, we have it (or at least we’re thinking about how to get it). We are so connected to the outside world that it’s a wonder we’re not all suffering from major stress (which I know many are). That being said, linking this to etiquette is a slightly different matter. Here are some things to remember when dealing with technology:

Nothing is private- whatever you post, upload, update, etc., is out there for the world to see potentially, so be careful what you talk about, what you upload, and who you are “friends” with in virtual land; this of course includes online chats.

I have a “Top 10 Don’ts” for email that you can find on my blog.

Be courteous. Don’t assume that because you are hiding behind an ipod, you can get away with not holding the door open for a young mother struggling with her stroller or ignore the elderly woman standing on the subway while you sit comfortably. Having earbuds in your head does not give you the right to ignore every day social graces, but it can make it more difficult to extend them as you become more enveloped in your own world.

Here is a post I did with other helpful links and articles that I found for these different situations that we will undoubtedly find ourselves in at one time or another.
