Ashley Brooke Designs: A Personal Project

(This pretty piece is hanging directly across from our bed. I love waking up and seeing it every morning!)

Every once in a while I need to do something creative, something that isn't at all similar to what I do all day everyday. Something that gives me fresh perspective on design. I absolutely love what I do and want to do it for the next 80 years of my life, but sometimes I will look at my sketch book and have a complete loss for inspiration... this doesn't happen often but when it does I know I need to take a step back and head to the nearest art supply store! This is my latest piece of what I call Lack-of-inspiration-inspiration-piece, and I'll tell you what it worked like a charm as soon as I finished this design I was filled with new ideas for my clients!

She wanted to be holding all of her favorite shopping bags in a fun, flirty, & poofy dress... so that is exactly what I did!!

Wedding Thank You Cards

This adorable couple came to me in search of something really fun that they could send out as thank you notes for all of their pre and post wedding events.

These are just adorable, and just what she had in mind!

Gift or no gift when RSVPing no to a child's birthday party?!

I received a great etiquette question last Wednesday asking:

If you are invited to a child's birthday party and you are just "so so" friends with the mother and you can't make it to the party, must you follow up with a gift later?

My thoughts initial thoughts on this is no.

Especially since you are most likely going to 3 birthday parties every weekend!

But I do think there are certain circumstances that the answer should be yes.

One, if they are family members, I think you should send a gift.

And two, if they are nearby neighbors.

I hope this helps!

Also, I received another non-etiquette questions last Wednesday asking:

What do you use to do your drawings? colored pencils or markers?

Do you do watercolor too?

I actually use a combination of markers, felt tip pens, and colored pencils.

Occasionally I use watercolors, but that is more for when I do landscapes, flowers, etc.

Cheery Blossoms...

I know that's Cherry Blossom Season in DC and photos of said blossoms have been popping up everywhere, so I thought I would show you a custom design I recently did for a client who just moved to DC!

The client wanted the labels to resemble Italian dinner plates... the finished product turned out so charming!

Rain, Rain, Go away...

My sister just got a new beautiful yellow rain coat for Valentines Day

which matched my pink rain coat that I received for my birthday a few years back.

I thought I would design us some custom stationery with our matching rain coats since...

we already look so much alike... why not have matching stationery!!
